A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new on the board but I started at 352 with a BMI 58.6 and was banded at the end of November 2006. I am now at 318 with a BMI of 51.8. I feel so much better but I am still scared to eat. I hate that feeling when you overeat or don't chew enought.

Hello! I am about to be 'new' to the whole 'banded' thing! I go in tomorrow (Feb. 14...what a great Valentine's gift:)!) for my pre-op and Monday, Feb. 19 at 8am I go in for the life changing surgery that I keep reading about! My doctor does not require the liquid diet until after the surgery. I am a bit apprehensive and a bit over the top with excitement (if both of those emotions can exist together!). The weather here in Ohio is horrid right now so I am hoping that nothing stops this momentum. I hope that it will not be long that I am posting the same great successes that continue to inspire me!

holy moly!!:faint: My surgery date is February 27th!!!!!!!!!! That's less than two weeks! Now All I have to do is survive the pre op. liquid Breakfast, liquid lunch and small Protein supper. (I may switch the supper with the lunch for the sanity of my co=workers... )

hey congratulations!!!

i just got banded yesterday!! that liquid diet is REALLY important, i stuck to it but by the hair of my pants! im SO GLAD i did, i think it makes the most difference right after the surgery.

I had a moment in the hospital after the barium and extra swallow test where i dry heaved, just for a second and then it was over. THANK GOODNESS i didnt have anything in my stomach.

Second day out and i feel alright! im a bit tender in the incision areas but thats about it.

Congratulations on your dates guys!!!!

(ps,it still kinda feels like i swallowed afootball)

oh..DONT FORGET YOUR GAS X. I actually prefer the chewable.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Congratulations to the new approvals, and those who've just received surgery dates and to the new bandsters...of which I still consider myself to be. I'm entering my 6 week post-op diet tomorrow. It's the same as it was this week, so no big suprise. :D

What is amazing to me is how quickly my 6 weeks of post-op healing went. I had an appointment with a nutritionist this past Tuesday, and when I told her my surgery date, she said with a smile, "Oh, so you've been banded a month and a day." To my amazement, it hadn't even crossed my mind, and it took someone else to bring it to my attention.

So, good luck, smooth surgeries and speedy healing to you all.

Yeah I have some loose skin, but it is not horrible. I am working out a lot now ran 5.2 k yesterday, so I think that helps too!!

But I will take loose skin over lots of extra weight anytime!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
