Hello everyone

I met my surgeon last week and am having my band fitted in 13 days time. At the minute I swing between the emotions of fear and terror. This has been a long time coming for me, having tried every diet and weight loss plan ever invented! Also I am self funding the procedure at a private hospital so it's a big financial commitment as well.

I am looking forward to the procedure being over and done with ... Surgeon advised a Pre op milk and yogurt diet or if that isn't doable a less than 1000 calories diet for 7 to 14 days before hand.

I've been following the less than 1000 calories for six days and lost 5 lbs already... Am hoping to last out on that a while longer and go fully milk and yogurt for 7 days before the knife. Good luck everyone, all support and advice welcome :) xx

Hi there !

I'm going through the same journey as you right now. Having my band fitted at Dolan Park on 23rd! Yikes! My surgeon is Mr Sigurdsson. I've been through the range of emotions you have. At first I was so fired up after my consultation I could have gad surery right thre an then. But of late ive been wavering a lot. I know I have no option andI need to do it as I've a BMI of 37.5 and my blood pressure was 161/93. You name it ive done. Ive venn gold member of weight watchers. Slimming world guru and just about everything else. Still im lost beneath a physical shape that does not do me justice to the person i am. I've also done just about everything to talk myself out of it. Even prepared myself to lose the money I have paid. But I know that for me this is the only way forward. It will require a massive shift in mind set and attitude. My relationship with food will have to change and that there is no point of me walking into that theatre if I'm going to cheat the band or not address my lifestyle issues. Starting my pre op diet tomorrow. Here goes! Good luck on your journey.

Welcome to the forum. I was also on a rollercoaster of fear and terror; it did get a little better as the time approached. I was banded (May 24th 2012)

The health insurance in the UK will not pay for this type of surgery?

Hang in there it will get better and then it will be wonderful. God bless

Lassie

Cham, same surgeon and same hospital!! how funny! how are you finding pre op diet? I guess you are doing 7 days? I don't finish work until fri and I cannot manage on milk and yog for this week... will stick to my below 1000 cals option. We should stay in touch! Hoe far from Dolan Park are you? x

Yes just doing 7days. Although I'm going to do an extra one in case I slip up! I'm in north east. Booked a taxi through THG for next Monday morning! Ouch. I think it will need to be here for 3 30am if check in is at 7am. Please keep in touch.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
