lump at bottom of throat

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I did a search for this but didn't find exactly what I have. I'm 20 days post op, and I just developed this really annoying sensation of a lump in my throat after "eating" (drinking). It lasts about a half hour and then goes away until I "eat" again. It feels like a gagging sensation but I can swallow fine and things are going down totally fine. It's very uncomfortable. It is worse if what I "eat" is thicker than normal. For example, today I blended up some minestrone Soup in the blender and made sure it was "get it through a straw" consistency. However it still has tiny tiny shreds of the Beans, the Pasta, etc., so it's rather thick and hearty. Well after eating this, the sensation was the worst it's ever been. It almost feels like my throat is swelling shut (it's not though). Anyone else have this???

I get a similar sensation, but in my case (TMI) it's because I have very active sinuses, and their "product" can collect at the base of my throat and collect, almost like a ball that I can feel, esp. when I swallow. Any chance you're draining? Have allergies that could cause this? It's getting to be that time of year again.

Sounds like restriction to me. Your sensation of being 'full' is going to be way higher than before you were banded. Even with some liquids, if you have good restriction you'll notice they sort of 'sit' above the band for awhile. :) Go slow.. listen to your body. If you get this sensation, go do something else..

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
