My best friend is a kaiser patient.I don't know a lot but she is going through 12 weeks of classes .She had to push her PCP to refer her cuz they didn't want to do it.I know in the classes they will try to steer to toward the sleeve of bypass. They say the other ones are better but I think it's financial.Kaiser performs the sleeve and bypass but contracts out the Lapband which costs them more money.Goodluck in your journey .

I am starting out with Kaiser as well!

I am having my first "class" on August 14th.

Stupid me.... I thought right after the class I get a referral & have a surgery soon after ....

After reading some posts here, I realize its a very long process ?

Mamato, please let me know what stage are you on now...?

I am so lost & dont know what to expect

My mother-in-law wanted the band and went through kaiser. She had to lose 10% of her body weight on her own and then go through 6 weeks of nutrition classes. In the end they said they wouldn't do the band because it's not successful and convinced her to get the sleeve.

Wow, 12 weeks of classes?! That is bananas!

I hope that you are all able to get through the process quickly! Good luck!

They basically removed part of her stomach to make it smaller. She only eats a few bites at a time because her stomach is so small, but it's different than gastric bypass because nothing is bypassed or re-routed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
