What Should My Goal Weight Be?

Recommended Posts

I am 5'8 and 33 yes old. It seems like I can't ever get answer out of my doc right where I should be. Does anyone have a good idea where I should be at? Any ideas would help thanks!

That is because there is no SHOULD. There is a range for healthy and presumably you want to aim for that.

Try this BMI calc , it's my favourite.

I gree with elcee. Your goal should depend on what body type you have, also. Youare young, so it factors differently than whenyou are older. Also, if you are active and exercise alot, you will be a different goal weight than someone who is not doing alot of exercise. There are many factors to look at. I am almost 64, I would look silly at my 118 size that I was at 21. I look good at 140, now that I am older. Best wishes and set mini goal as you go! Karen

Before I had my surgery my doctor told me they wanted me to get to 180 pounds. This still leaves me as obese according to all the bmi charts! I wasnt happy with that so I set my own goal to 140. I would just try to aim for a healthy BMI.

My surgeon stated that my healthy BMI would be 117 which he doesn't want me at because of my height and body type. The goal he established was at 60% of the excess weight to be gone which was 80 pounds; so it was 175. I had my surgery on April 2nd and started at 260 well this morning i got on the scale and I am at 222. Yes, there is a big difference because I work out every single day for two hours and want to drop the most of my weight the first year and maintain from there. Talk to your doctor and let him/her know your concern and they will be more than happy to help.

I am 5'8" and I am about 168 and wearing mostly size 10 (depending on the clothes, sometimes 8 sometimes 12). I am about 4 lbs from a normal bmI. I find it kind of crazy that a size 10 is overweight so im not sure how much stock I put in the calculator.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
