Terrified of PBing

Recommended Posts

Hey Banderlarians of Bandlandia!

I will be having my surgery on Monday. Reading the message board makes me very nervous about PBing. Besides the pain involved, which sounds horrible, I have panic/anxiety disorder so I'll know I'll go into a panic. There have been times I have almost passed out from anxiety.

How can I help avoid this horror?

ANd when they say small sips, small bites, exactly how small is "small" ?

Don't worry yourself too much about it, sad to say it probally will happen and you will learn from your expierences. The PB/Slime are what I consider a good "negative" re-inforcement of what I should be doing and I have learned from it.

Just take it slow, learn your boundries and you will do just fine.

Come to the Support group tomorrow night, we'll talk you through your fears.

Thanks Alexra, I won't be able to make it tonight. I'm not feeling well today. I have FMS & CFS and there are good days and bad days, and you never know when they will hit.

I really wanted to hear the Emotional Eating topic too.

I bought baby spoons and eat about a half of one per bite, and chew until mush. Even with my cottage cheese, b/c I really don't want to experience a PB again... or should I say, I want to postpone it as long as possible!

I have to say it was something I was 'afraid' of but I did it for he first time this week, and although it wasnt nice it also wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Thanks for the tips.

I am also concerned with finding out which foods I can't olerate. Seems PBing is a hellofva way to find out!

SOmeone said they have a "two minute rule". That they take a bite and if all is well after two minutes, they continue on.

Are you referring to fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome? Most people will have no clue what you are talking about. Abbreviations don't go a long way in explaining things to people. Good luck with your surgery.

It seems to refer to two things. One being when food gets stuck, but proceeds to pass on its own or with some assistance. Two being when food gets stuck and has to come back up. PB = Productive Burp (who came up with that? Calling that a burp is like calling your surgery incision a scratch!)

thanks for the reply. i am 6 days post op and am on "soft" foods and have yet to have any of the problems i am hearing about. i have not had nausea, vomiting,or PBing. i guess i am lucky. the way my appetite has been the past 2 days i am starting to wonder if i actually had a band put in! i am so hungry all the time and i am not sure i am chewing my food well enough or even if i am eating the right thing. this forum is more helpful than my surgeons office...they make me feel like a pest when i call...

Yes, Dody fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I figure most have no clue, but after 100 posts on it, it's long to write out constantly, so if someone wants to know, they can ask me, otherwise, I'm abbreviating. :D

And thank you, I'm very nervous!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
