How Did You Feel After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I got approved in a day. I have to get the surgery done before the end of the month. I'm scheduled on the 31st, the same darn day my daughter continuates:(. Wondering how did you feel the day of? My doc is saying I'll be a little sore but should feel fine to sit through a 1hour program later that night. I'm excited but feel overwhelmed at the same time.

Remembering back, that day I was pretty out of it. My surgery was first thing in the morning and I was home by noon. I slept most of the afternoon, up around dinner time. Of course I couldn't eat, and had some pain from the surgery. But I didn't have an important event to go to either....for something like that I probably would have made it through! (fyi if that's anything like a graduation it will be much longer than an hour!). Hope you can coordinate everything!

I was rather out of it the evening of my surgery. I wasn't really in pain, but I just wanted to sleep. I was up and around a little bit more the next day, but I really took it easy for about 5 days.

I was miserable the day of and in pain. I can't imagine having to go somewhere afterwards to sit. Plus I still kind of felt out of from the anesthesia.

Yeah, that's what I thought. My husband may have to fill in.

Once I got home my mom stayed with me for a few hours and I think I stayed up during most of that time, but after she left I was in and out of sleep for til the next morning.

I wasn't in real pain after surgery, just achy. I was also really sleepy from the drugs, but could have sat for an hour if necessary.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
