Pre-Op Diet/wanting Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have to do a 2 weeks 3 times a day Protein Shake. Yes I'm shopping around now for them and hoping fo surgery date next month. I like fruity things. I bought Isopure Grape today at GNC, will chill and try. Has anyone tried this: Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein® shake Cherries Jubilee? I don't do caffeine so will not or don't like chocolate shakes and do not like vanilla. I'm more into crystal light tasting things. I can tolerate strawberry with skim milk and ice but that will get old for 2 weeks so I'm looking for suggestions on brands. I know a lot of you said Unjury and Jay Robb??? thx, Donna

Hi Donna,

Make sure you try drinking a decent quantity of each shake you try, so you're sure that you like it before going to buy a whole bunch... I loved the Isopure the first time I tried it, but then realized that they left a really slimy coating in my mouth when I had a whole glass. YUCK!

My favorite, by a very large margin, is GNC's "Lean Shake". I think it's new to market, because they seem to be on sale constantly near me... What I like about it is that it's much thinner than others I tried. I think because it has real skim milk in it and isn't lactose free...

I am thinking of buying the Unjury non flavored powder to add it like Crystal Light or whatever is sugar free. I am getting sick of the Unjury shakes, they are thick. I do have Traders Joes chocolate Protein Shake thats not too bad. I was eating FF cottage cheese but now that makes me wantt to barf just lookin at it! I am Diabetic so I am allowed Greek yogurt and cottage cheese thank god. Its tough, I have 4 more days to go.

@Donna I might have the answer for you. "Syntrax Nectar" There website is www. si03.com look for nectar products. But don't buy on that site it is to expensive. The cheapest site I found online is vitacost.com

But you can call this number 866-333 7403 ext. 803 or the operator( this is the si03 website).and ask for the sampler nectar packs, right now it's only 14 dollars no tax no shipping for 12 or 13 different fruity flavors. calories 90 23 grams of Protein. You can only order 1 time for the sampler pack. That's the cheapest you will find the sampler pack. But everything else is very expensive. This way you can try them out before ordering them.

If you like it google comparison shopping for Syntrax Nectar and check the prices out.

I'm waiting on my order to come Monday. You can also go on youtube and check the Syntrax Nectar out.

I had to do Clear Liquids only for two weeks post op. I drank the Isopure but cut it with Water b/c it was too sweet & does have an aftertaste. The water helps it. Do try one of each of the flavors you might like. Some are better than others. Best of luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
