Is This What "satiety" Is? It Is Wonderful!

Recommended Posts

I am only 7 days out from surgery. I had my proceedure on 5/8/12. Since that moment, I have not wanted to eat or drink a single thing. I only remember to eat when I get shakey and weak. I havent thought about food at all. I get full quick and have no trouble stopping at 1/2 a cup of food or less. I am not hungry for 5 - 6 hours or more. I know it is highly likely my hunger will return in the next few weeks or days until I get a fill. However, I have always been very senitive to changes in my body or medicince. So maybe (glimmer of hope) that the band is already working for me!

It is hard to get my protient and Water in. But If this feeling leaves me, I will strive for it again with fills. It is like being un handcuffed from bonds of food. This is how skinny people must think! If this is how my journey is going to be, I could not be more happy that I got the band.

My surgeon has everyone start on full liquids on week one. So I am able to drink protien shakes and have Soups which are pureed. It is totally satisfying and enough. I get so full so easily.

I lost 12 lbs in pre-opt and 6 since surgery (1 lb a day)!

I am not unrealistic aht the feeling may go away till I have fills or I may stop losing or I may even gain. But for now, it is a nice reward after a hard proceedure.

Thanks for listening :)

Not having an appetite this soon after surgery is normal, but it is nice, isn't it? Once swelling goes down you'll probably get some hunger back, but I'd not, that's awesome. I know there are stone bandsters that have zero fill and do wonderful. Were you filled at surgery?

Thanks for posting this. It's exactly what I am hoping for myself. I am still in the deciding phase, having completed my initial appointment with the surgeon, psychiatric eval, and meeting with the dietitian. I've always thought that I just want to be able to eat what is reasonable. I want to know what it's like to be satisfied with a 'normal' amount. Please keep posting and let us know how it goes.

My surgeon said he puts a small fill in everyone at surgery and our first fill is set for 3 weeks post opt to avoid bandster hell. I am truely hopefull the feeling does not go away but at least I know what I will be seeking to get back to (green zone) if it does go away! Thanks for responding.

Best luck this week! Be prepared for a hard few days but as bad as you may feel, it leaves just as quickly. I made myself walk alot even if I hurt or was tired which I think helped eliviate the bad gas pain. Be careful to continue sipping Water everytime you are awake. You wont be awake much the first day or two and it is hard to get water and fluids in while awake so it takes effort. I hope you will feel like I do as well. Best of wishes on your journey too.

I had a good friend banded on the same day as me. We messaged on our phones all day each day after to see how we were each feeling. It was a huge help. I would tell anyone to find a same day buddy and exchange phone numbers so you can text each other. It is nice to have someone else who is sharing the expirence b/c your family wont know how you feel.

I agree with you completely. I'm 13 days post op and I hope I'm not jumping the gun by saying this was such a good decision to make..my hunger did return but I'm on puréed so a little amount gets me full for a long time!! Besides the gas my healing is going so well no issues with eating at all I take my time and I haven't experienced any nausea or even any uncomfortable feelings durning or after eating. I have 2 ccs in my band since surgery. All together I am 43lbs down 11lbs since surgery I couldn't be happier :-)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
