Coughing Since May 4 Band

Recommended Posts

I have had a constant cough since getting my band. It can happen when eating, several hours after eating, and even wakes me up in the middle of the night. I try to take a drink to help, but it doesn't. I have also tried sucking on a mint, but it didn't help either. I even tried a Tums in case it was some sort of heartburn/reflux, but nope. They removed all 4 cc's out of my band Friday because of the other issues I had. What is this and how do I stop it?

Definitely let your surgeon know. He may be able to prescribe some sort of acid blocker for you.

I have a 10 cc band. I wasn't sure at first that it was all band related as my high blood pressure med also causes a cough, but my BP has actually been low, so we discontinued it as of Friday. While I am obese at 240, I didn't think I was qualified for a larger one. I will call him tomorrow and ask about it. It is bothersome for sure, but not a deal breaker.

Cough is a sign of being to tight. You need to remove some more Fluid. Even though you had some removed you probably already had everything irritated and inflammed so you have to remove more fluid so your stomache can relax. Then get a small fill in a few weeks. I have had that cough and it is miserable and ifyou let it go then reflux starts also.

My last full if 5.5cc I had a litlle coughing, especially at night. I dropped about four pounds and it stopped. Maybe I was a tiny bit overfilled but I worked hard eating Soups, foods that I could get down. Not having this anymore.

My band is totally empty. He filled it with 4 and 4 was removed Friday. I think I will thin out the foods I am allowed even more than I have been and hopefully as the weight comes down, the coughing will subside.

I have been told that sometimes you get the same symptoms if a band needs some Fluid as you would get for a band thats too tight.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
