Why

I thought I would post a few reasons why I decided to make this journey in life. I'm not banded yet but hopefully I will be in a few months. Share your reasons if you would like. I have never told anyone any of these.

But I decided to get the Lapband so I can...

-Wear horizontal stripes.

-Wear a shirt with an x in front of it.

- have my husband pick me up for a great kiss

- Not being the biggest person in the room

- wear my wedding ring again

-stop having to buy clothes online

-Fit into my standard bath tub

-sit in a standard chair and not feel the arms digging into my side.

-Not feel the bounce of the car when I get in

-stop stretching out my 3x shirts after washing them.

-stop having to buy men's belts.

-go out to eat I not feel like people are watching everything I eat.

- get people to stop feeling sorry for me.

-have my queen size big to feel big enough for me and my husband.

- be able to run.

- not get gestational diabetes

- run and play with my future kids

-stand for longer than 20 mins without my back hurting

- get rid of this extra chin

- do I can be a better nurse

- be happy and healthy

And much more

I made the decision to have this surgery because I have struggled with my weight for the past 20 years. I have witnesssed close family members go through hip and knee replacement as well as developing diabetes. I did not want to go down that road. I also want energy to keep up with my grandson. I did it for ME. Thanks for sharing :)

  • 4 weeks later...

My reasons for wanting the lapband are:

I really want to go sky diving!

I want to feel sexy when my boyfriend asks me to shower with him...

I want to be a runner and not have the problem of getting tired after 2 minutes...

Wear a sexy little black dress and go out and dance all night...

Don't want my thighs rubbing together anymore!

I want someone, just one person to call me skinny!

But most of all and the most important I want to be slim and a normal weight like the rest of my siblings and not be embarrassed to take pictures with them because of fear of ruining the picture being the FAT girl hiding in the back or off to the side...

I decided to have surgery so I can feel good about myself. I have been so depressed and unhealthy for so long I am ready to get out of this slump. I avoid picture completely now. I want to be able to run around with my baby girl without getting winded I want to feel beautiful and I want to be healthy.

you are right and so much more :)

I want to see my feet again when standing.

I want to cut and paint my own toenails instead of having my husband do it.

I want to shop in the regular clothes section.

I want to feel comfortable on a plane or stadium seat.

I want to cross my legs.

I want to fit comfortably in a restaurant booth.

I want to fit comfortably in a regular restroom stall instead of the handicapped one.

I want to ride in a rollercoaster again.

I dont want to be the fattest person in the room. (And I thought I was the only one!)

I want to live a long and healthy life.

To:

Continue to be the healthy me and not develop diabetes or high blood pressure

Get rid of sleep apnea

To live as long as possible for my babies (who are 11 & 6) and my husband

To fit in clothes in the regular clothes section

To weigh less than my husband for possibly the first time since we were 16 & 17

To sit in a booth at a restaurant comfortably (that is a good one)

To use a regular stall in the bathroom vs the handicap one (good one too)

And let's just all admit it....to look good. I will never look as good as I would "like" to, but I'm sure after losing this weight and a great plastic surgeon, it'll be better.

Before i got this surgery I made a long list of things I want to do after I lose the weight. For example, I want to be able to shop at regular stores, try parasailing and surfing, take a dance class, fit comfortably in an airline seat, walk into a room and feel sexy, ride roller coasters and buy lingerie at Victorias Secret.

I want to be healthy. I want to get rid of this back pain and avoid the diabetes that plagues the obese members of my family.

I want to be the star of my life instead of sitting in the background. I refuse to waste another year of my 20's missing out on things because of my size.

I've only been banded near three weeks now but I believe the ups and downs will be worth it.

Here are my reasons:

  • I want to live to see my children get married and have children
  • I want to cross my legs
  • I want my husband to be able to pick me and carry me over the threshold of our new house
  • I want to feel delicate and feminine
  • I want to be in some pictures with my children as they grow up
  • I want to wear a seatbelt without pulling it all of the way out
  • I want to fly on a plane without fear of having to buy an extra seat
  • I want to advance my career- as I have been held back by "fat-phobic" people
  • I want men to admire me once again
  • I want to have sex with the lights on
  • I want to get rid of some of my obesity-induced skin issues
  • I want to be able to hike again
  • I want to be able to run again
  • I wnat to reduce my risk of Diabetes & cancer
  • I want my family to be proud of me
  • I want to be proud of me
  • I want to be able to wear a thong ;)
  • I want to wear pretty dresses
  • I want to not feel tired all of the time
  • I want to not feel crabby all of the time
  • I want to have more energy for my children

Not be a fat mom.

fit in the airplane seat comfortably.

Not hit stuff with my booty because I forget how big it is.

Weigh less than my hubby.

More energy.

Ride roller coasters again.

Run again.

Shop at normal stores again.

Not have to hang all my shirts dry for fear of them shrinking.

Play volleyball again.

Not be the fattest woman in my neighborhood.

Not avoid the camera like a plague.

Get a family picture taken.

Not weigh more than my brothers and dad.

Like myself again.

My reasons are both deep and superficial (I'll admit it!)

- to fit into all the cute Victoria Secret underwear I have.

- to be comfortable in my own skin.

- to not be bigger than my husband.

- to be able to look at myself in the mirror and not cringe.

- to get rid of my high blood pressure and prevent diabetes.

- to look on the outside how fabulous I am starting to feel in the inside.

- more than anything I want my doctor to remove the "morbidly obese" diagnosis from my chart.

I love this post.

I got the band because:

I am rasing my 6 yr old grandson that I want to see graduate high school and maybe even college.

To sleep with out my CPAP mask.

To shop for clothes at the mall.

To have my husbands arms fit around me.

To not avoid looking in the mirror.

To have my knees and back not hurt.

To fit in a airplane seat without a belt extension.

And so many more, but mostly for myself and my grandson.

I LOVE this thread....I too have my list of reasons...

  • I want to look in the mirror and LIKE what I see in the reflection
  • I want to wear a bikini
  • I want to wear a little black dress without having to use a girdle
  • I want to walk with confidence
  • I want to run....not just walk
  • I want to be the mom my kids are proud to have show up at school
  • I want to go sky diving
  • I want to go to an amusement park and ride ANY ride...not be too big for the seat belt to fit
  • I want to go to the beach and lay in the sun (Without being called a beached whale by superficial idiots)
  • I want to go sky-diving
  • I want to be the one that turns heads when I walk into a room (for the RIGHT reasons!)
  • I want to have energy
  • I want to go skiing
  • I want to learn to dance
  • I want to run a marathon
  • I want to set an example for my kids
  • I want to be healthy
  • I DONT want to get diabetes
  • I DONT want to deal with Sleep Apnea
  • I DONT want to die early
