Ok...my curiosity is KILLING me.....

Recommended Posts

I have tried everything to figure out what "PB or PBing" stands for, but I just can't get it figured out. Anyone so kind as to enlighten me, and while you are at it, let me know what some of the other initials stand for?

Also, can anyone describe to me what having something "stuck" feels like, or if you overeat what it feels like? I have also heard that you need to learn a new feeling of being full.

Thanks..Kim

PB stands for "Productive Burp"

It's when you eat too fast or don't chew enough and the top of your stomach gets so full that you have to throw up, but it's not the same as throwing up before banding. That's why it's called a productive burp- there are no stomach acids so it doesn't taste foul or hurt. It's like you feel pressure or your mouth starts to salivate heavily and then you get to a bathroom and up it comes, whatever food was "too much."

My nurse says that once someone starts to get fills, it's not uncommon to PB once a week. I usually only PB when I am not paying attention to how much or how fast I'm eating and I foget my new good habits and go back to old habits, eat too much, too fast and then I start to get a hint that a PB is coming. At this point I hardly ever do it, maybe once every three weeks.

But when you're starting to get used to eating the new way, it's not a bad idea to carry around a little ziplock bag and a napkin in your purse.

You don't want to PB too much because it can irritate the stomach and esophagus. Daily PB-ing is okay for a couple days in a row but not as an ongoing lifestyle.

I see PBs as reminders to slow down and chew more.

Once I've PB-ed, the rest of that day I am gentle on my stomach and will probably just have cream Soups and Protein Drinks, nothing harsh.

Good luck!

Forgot to answer the other questions : ) Sorry.

When I was first banded, but before I had fills, I'd sometimes get something "stuck." The first time it was a spoonful of chili. It reminded me of taking a large Vitamin pill that gets stuck halfway down your throat. It didn't really hurt, it didn't stop my breathing, but I was conscious of it being there and I certainly didn't want to eat anything for a while. The shortest time it took to go away for me was about half an hour, the longest time was a day and a half.

The new feeling of full for me is that when I've eaten enough, I feel kind of a soft tighness in my upper chest. It used to be sort of a bloaty feeling in my belly but now it's more of a tight feeling right in the middle of my chest.

Thanks Nette, that definately answers my questions. I am so glad to hear that it's not like regular throwing up. I go to GREAT lengths to avoid throwing up. It just kills me. I feel like I'm being turned inside out.:sick I think I can handle just regurgitating something, not that I look forward to it. That is interesting about the tight feeling in your chest. That must definately take some getting used to. I really need to start practicing chewing. I am soooooo guilty of swallowing my food whole, and it seems like that will get me into a whole heap of trouble after I'm banded. I also drink profusely when I eat...helps to wash it down quicker so I can get another bite in! LOL.

I am PSYCHED! I can't wait for my surgery.:P

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
