I am from Edmonton, Alberta Canada and I am having my surgery on April 27th in Toronto at the Slimband clinic. Slimband has a clinic in Edmonton but only does the surgeries in Toronto. I fly to Toronto on April 26th and fly back to Edmonton on April 28th the day after my surgery. I assume this is quite common as they have enough patients here to support a clinic but I'm wondering if anyone has done this and could let me know what to expect. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable during a 4 hour flight. I've booked a seat with extra leg room for the return flight. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to make my return travel as comfortable as possible?

Wow, that seems quite brave to me! I went to a concert four days after my surgery and was really quite uncomfortable the whole time. One thing I wish I had done was put my arm in a sling because I was supporting my arm all night with the shoulder pain. Plus it would have been a visible sign to others to avoid bumping or bustling me.

definitely take your painkillers. And I am sure you are travelling with someone who can carry your bags etc

and I hope you don't get moved from your extra leg room seat. In Australia they are at the exit aisles and you have to be physically capable of assisting others in an emergency.

best wishes!

They recommend 48 hours at least, and only if you don't have any clotting issues.

I flew to Las Vegas from Portland, Oregon and back the same week as surgery and felt great. I didn't get too much pain like others after surgery, so I was pretty much back to normal the day after.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
