Calling All Runners! Question For You!

Recommended Posts

I have been running since 2009 - ran many, many, many 5K's. Last year I ran 2 half marathons. In October 2011 I had to have a revision to my lap band. So I did stop running after that, probably for 4 weeks? I started back slowly and was doing well again until just recently, probably since Jan/Feb. I barely can run for a min! I get so winded, it's very strange! I wasn't this winded when I first started running. I've tried everything to get back into it. I slowed my pace, decided to try the C25K again, but nothing is working!

Has this happened to anyone else? I am supposed to do another half in May (yes..next month) and won't be able to run, but plan on doing it, even if I have to walk.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Teri

The fact that one week you are able to run without getting winded and then all of a sudden the next week you can't, signals me that you need to see your GP to make sure nothing else is going on. It is one thing to have a hard time getting back up to pace after a break, but if you feel like you had got back into the swing of things after taking a 4 week break and then are having issues.....doesn't sound like it is an endurance issue. Get a check up just to make sure.

I don't want to freak you out but! I had a blockage in my heart at age 34 and had to have a stint put in. One of the major signs of this is getting winded and tired easily. Do you get winded doing other things like stairs, carrying laundry etc. I would definitely get to a doctor right away just to be sure. I could be way off here and hope I am but you can never be too sure.

No, I'm not winded or tired from anything else. But I think I'll make an appt with my doctor just in case!

Thanks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
