VanGaurd fills

Hmm...I'm confused now.The nurse said it was a 10cc band...so that would be a VG, right? And from what I'm reading, they have less complications but are harder to find "the sweet spot?"

I had a fill of 4 cc (1st fill - VG band) on 3/13. I felt restricted for 3 days, by Thur, 3/16, I was back to being able to eat likle before the fill. My Dr. has scheduled another fill on 3/27. Any suggestions on the amount of this fill? I am trying to relearn to eat and it is hard when the restriction goes up and down.

I have the VG band and it was very hard to find the "sweet spot" I have had 8 fills and I'm at 6.8cc. I think I'm there this time but who knows? I know I am restricted but I might be too restricted. This band is a blessing for me but it sure is a pain! In the mornings I CAN'T eat anything and Water even hurts a little. but I do losen up later. Not much but some. I really really have to be careful of what I eat. No matter how much I try I just can Not eat bread of any kind. I try and try and chew and chew but no go.

Good luck and just keep trying to find that "sweet spot" You'll find it soon enough. :)

I have the VG Band and have had 3 fills.

1st- @ 4cc total

2nd- @ 6cc total

and...

3rd- 8cc's total done yesterday.

Don't know if I have real restriction yet, but I hope this does the trick.

I know it is so frustrating. I did feel some restriction with the 6cc fill but nothing to brag about.

I hope that this extra cc does the trick.

Joy had her second fill yesterday and they took her from a 6 to an 8cc fill. They used the xray and restricted her so that the barium would not pass through. Then the NP unfilled her just a bit and we saw the barium shoot through her band. That was where they left her. Now liquids for a week and then back to mushies and such....

I was wondering I am being filled under flouroscopy, so would the doc fill the band until it looks like you have restriction or will he just fill it a little. I don't know exactly what band I have but my doc showed me a pic of the VG band after my surgery so I am pretty sure that this is the one I have. My doc is new at this but I totally trust him. I wonder if my new found knowledge of fills from reading and reading will be of interest to him.

I have the VG band and it's been murder getting good restriction with this size band, but do not fear, restriction is comming......

It's taken about 7 fills, (from a very generous doctor who says if you have no restriction in 2 weeks, come back) and 8.1 ccs in my band to get really good restriction. The last fill of 7.9 was good but this one, I feel it and I just got it today.

I will be on liquids for the next 3/4 days and mushies for 2 and then try solids but we will see. I can actually see the shape of my port in my stomach due to the weight lost, it's incredible.

Anyway, just wanted to say, stay encourage it will come. The thing I like about the band is the weight does not return, I have been consistant with lossing or staying the same and that's something that I've never done while dieting for the last 20 years.:scared:

Hi MyBand,

Sorry that I am so long in replying but the warm coffee/tea relaxes the restriction.. I have always had a tighter band in the mornings and have found coffee helpful. Likewise, if I eat ice-cream/yourt, I can only eat about 2 oz before the cold closes and then I throw-up. But that might just be me.

I have just found out that I have a 4cc band, at least I think, LOL. He said the size was 10 mm, but I think he ment to say 10 cm. He is new to the band buisness. Just so that you know I am totally ok with that and was excited to be his first LB patient. I go for my first fill 4/27 at like 8:30 am. I can't wait.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
