The Long Wait....

Recommended Posts

Well, I went to my first bariatric seminar on Thursday to get the ball rolling. I had been told that I would have to see a registered dietitian for 3 months for my insurance to cover the lap band. I already had my first appoint set up for Friday afternoon! I am so motivated to get this done! Well, after my dietitian appointment, I had a couple of questions about my insurance, so I called them. Found out I have to do SIX months before they will cover it. :( I was hoping to get all of the before surgery stuff done and have it by late Summer. Now it is looking more like end of Sept or Oct. UGH! But on a good note, I started my low carb diet yesterday and so far, it is going well. My office is starting a "biggest loser" contest on Monday, so I will have that motivation as well. I am just so ready to start getting this weight off and feeling better!

I see many people using their insurance have to wait 6 months and just know it will all be worth it. I was self pay so from my first consult to my surgery date was exactly 2 weeks but let me tell you that any hoops they present go ahead and jump because it is so worth it. I am not yet 4 weeks from surgery and am just short of 20 lbs. (I have not updated my ticker so it isn't accurate. I am 18.5 lbs down).

Hi Trina, congrats on our decision! I think it's one we won't regret! My insurance also required 6 months, which was a Turning Point Program and a health coach. I was disappointed because I wanted it done much sooner but the time seemed to go by fairly quick, my surgery is next week on the 22nd. I'm so excited to get going on it! Good luck to you on your journey, it will be here before you know it. Deb

ME TOOOOO!!!! Met my surgeon last week. I had my calendar with me to book surgey date. NOT!!! 6 months of monthly dietition meetings. Crap

My surgeon suggested that with my weight 329 and my history of failed diets, I opt for the Gastric Sleve.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
