2 Week Post Op Visit

Recommended Posts

I had my 2 week post op visit today. My scars are healing very nicely and my 2 week post op liquid diet was cut so this afternoon I started soft food. I am very happy with my progress so far.

Isn't soft food heaven after all those liquids? *laughs*

I actually had 4 weeks of liquids, it was rough. In fact I was banded on Jan 6 and am just finally starting solid food tomorrow. (had my first fill today, so back to liquids for today)

Glad everything is going well :)

Oh, ditto times a million on the soft foods. It was like becoming human again to have something other than liquids! Glad to hear all is going well for you.

Puréed black bean Soup with salsa and lite sour cream is my new best friend! I also gave myself permission to do mashed potatoes with rf cheese melted and mixed in. It's not low cal and will be a no-no in the future, but right now my focus is on healing and feeling good rather than losing weight. At least until the first fill. I also have done okay with soft scrambled eggs, but I think the key is to go slow and listen to your body. Not everyone can tolerate the same things at the same stages.

I'm doing mashed potatoes tonight with yogurt butter and skim milk. I'm excited about that. First eating my Protein so just expecting to be able to have a few mashed potato bites.

I had 3 soft food meals today. 2oz chicken salad 1 slice of cheese.

2oz sliced turkey breast 2 tablespoons apple sauce. Then I had 2oz of chili with 1oz.

grated cheese and 6 saltine crackers. Surprising they were all filling.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
