Information About Being Approved By Tricare

Recommended Posts

Alright I've been doing so insane research about LapBand, reading all the benefits, and risks. I've decided I would like to have the surgery. BUT I'm only 20, and can't prove I've been dieting, i.e. I've never tried weight watchers/bally ect. Also I don't have (to my knowledge) a secondary medical cause because just being over weight. I'm 5'6/5'7'' and weigh 260, my ideal weight is 143-140. My BMI is about 40-42. I've been on a diet for 8 months, and have gained at least 10 lbs. So does anyone know if TRICARE will approve me? IDK if it helps but I have endometriosis, and the hormones are why I've gained over 50 lbs in a year.

Thank you so much <3

What kind of tricare do you have? And with your BMI you should have no problems getting approved. As far as dieting, last year tricare didn't require 6 months of dieting beforehand. Of course, the policy could change since it's the new year! Good luck!

Prime is excellent! Don't worry! Just get a letter of necessity from your PCP and you shouldn't have any problems! I was approved in about 3-4 weeks with no issues and I had tricare RS

I just went through this whole process 3 times and got denied by them finally round 3 I appealed my case and got approved .... I fought this denial because I met all the guidelines and in there policy it does not state u need 6 months they just try to tell u that over the phone but for this to be in affect it has to be in writing in there policy ... That's why I fought it and won because they tried to tell me I needed 6 months of failed weightloss attempts .... But they couldn't prove that cuz its not in the policy ... I think you have a good shot , if they deny you appeal it and mention what I said in ur letter ... Hope this helped ....

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
