Question About Post Lap Band Surgery Eating

Recommended Posts

I had the surgery on the 20th (so 3 days ago), I was told that I am now able to move from a clear liquid to a cream Soup, or juices stuff like that. I am finding that I am hungry so I make some soup I get about 5 bites down before I start to feel sort of sick to my belly so I stop eating and put it away then an hr later I am hungry again becuase I didnt really eat anything but once again if I take a few bites I feel sick. Is this normal or should I be concerned? If this is supposed to happen how long does it usually last? Thanks so much for your help....Courtney

Sip the Soups slowing, in tiny sips. If you are vomiting, I'd be concerned, otherwise, not so much. Take a little break between sips and let them settle in. Nausea is pretty common post-op. If it gets too bad, call your doc for some anti-nausea medicine.

Hope you feel better soon!

Here are the ACBS recomendations:

First week: Clear Liquids and Protein Drinks.< /em>

Week 2: Protein Drink and thick liquids.< /em>

Week 3 & 4: pureed and mashed foods-oatmeal, Greek yogurt, mashed Beans, etc.

Week 5: Chopped foods

Week 6: You're home free! Just cut in small pieces and chew well.

This diet is recommended by the major bariatric medical groups.

Walking is important to prevent blood clots, and reduce effects from surgical gas

and just for exercise.

With the diet you're following, you're not giving yourself enough time to heal. A few days isn't going to make that much difference, so slow down.

Ok ill go back to the clear, the nutritionist and hospital doctors where the ones that told me I could have thicker Soups on friday, I am not vomitting but it does bother me alittle bit and makes me not want to eat it, but then again I am hungry and the hunger pains are pretty bad too. ive been trying to go super slow, take a sip and put it down for a few minutes and then take another.

My nutritionist said to try to sip 1 ounce every 15-30 minutes in the first week or so, then up to 8 ounces per hour, and so on to get you started being used to having liquids again. Even if it means letting Soup get cold.

I had my surgery on the 12th and I was told to drink Isopure the first few weeks. It is a clear Protein drink that comes in 4 flavors. It has 40g of protein and 160cal. I found the smaller bottles at CVS and the larger bottles at the grocery store near the other diet drinks like slimfast. I dont really feel hungery after drinking them and I feel like I have a lot more energy. Just try not to rush things too much and you will do great. Good luck

I had my surgery on the 20th and havent really had many problems, but I am right there with you Court. My drs said any liquids for the first two weeks were fine. Ours even lets us have pudding, yogurt or blenderized eggs. I have tried the pudding with a scoop of Protein Powder and no problems. Hope you get to feeling better soon smile.png

Shellie, My docotor wanted atleast a week of just liquids but I decided last night that I was going to try a few scoops of a greek yogurt thinking maybe the pains I was having was from being hungry and sure enough the pain went away, The Soups were only helping my hunger for like a half hr, the yogurt helped for hours and I only ate a little of it. Im glad to know that you also are eating yogurts and pudding it makes me feel better about eating that yogurt last night lol. How is it going watching everyone else eat for the holidays, I know that has been hard for me but I have been very strong about it!

Court12, I'm just now heading to families to be around food, so idk yet, but hoping and praying it won't be too hard! And I'm no Dr, but I'm sure the yogurt won't kill u lol I know the guilt tries to nibble at u. But honestly that was some of the things on our liquid diet for 1st 2 weeks post op. Well only had to do clear liquids in hospital!. Anyway, Congrats and Merry Christmas :-)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
