Two Years Post- Lap Band Surgery Restrictions

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery over two years ago and have had several fills. Things have been going very well until recently. I went on vacation and actually came back having lost 8 lbs. Mostly because eating out so often limited me on what I could order. I don't do well with meats and breads. Learned to love Lobster Bisque though. :-)

Since returning home I have felt a lot of restriction, to the point now even drinking Water is uncomfortable some times. Can someone explain how the band works as you lose weight? Is the pouch shrinking, thus requiring a little unfill? I don't want to start putting weight back on, but I'm uncomfortable a good part of the time. Thanks.

Think you might try going on a liquid diet for a couple of days to see if it's just irritation? If that doesn't help or

if it gets worse, you should probably see your doctor. Hope you had a good vacation.

For me, I find that there are times I don't feel like eating and I just have a shake and Snacks. Sometimes for a few days.

When this happens, I also find my band gets tighter for some reason.

But as I begin to eat more it improves.

The opposite is true. When I feel I'm eating too much (or frequently more exact) and feel no or less restriction, I'll go liquids for a day or two to get the restriction back.

I also have trouble with meats and breads, I just don't think about them that much anymore. And, like you, I love soups!

Travelling upset my stomach too. Cold weather really upset my stomach also.PMS,getting the flu, stress, hormones, etc etc etc..There are a lot of things that influence my stomach's "mood".When this happens i just lay back for some days and go with the flow. But i also try to eat,and the more i eat the easier it gets, although i dont push it a lot.Having a lapband is not easy..even now..16 months post surgery.

So i dont really know what happens.Doc said that losing weight makes you feel less restriction but it was never true in my case.Stuck episodes are definitely different now,coz i know when to stop and i dont vomit anymore. But i can tell you for sure that eating more that 2 bites of Pasta of bread, was never easy for me.Still isn't.

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses. I ended up going to the Dr. and discovered the problem was post nasal drip from my allergies. Believe it or not, it fills your pouch to where you can't eat or at least with me it did. I had a little unfill and am doing much better. I've put on a few lbs. which is okay by me as long as I feel better.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
