Frustrated Not Losing

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated and sad! I was banded in March 2011 - Ive lost 15lbs all together and thats it! I quit smoking and stop wearing the patch the day of my surgery. I recently got a fill and I think Im too tight - I cant really eat anything and when I do it hurts. When I drink Water in the morning - it has a hard time going down. I'm embarassed that I got this surgery and my weight hasnt even changed much. The program I am on is a Protein Shake for Breakfast one for lunch and thne 3 oz of Protein and 3 oz of veggies...its just not enough for me so I do good till about lunch or dinner and then I start eating and now I cant really eat salads cause I get stuck. I exercise every single day as I did before the band and still no change. I have a total of 50lbs I have to lose and its not moving at all.... I dont know what to do! :(

Giogirl - I am sorry you are having challenges. Don't give up. Have you talked to your doctor or seen a nutrionist? You may not be eating enough to fuel your body to be a fat burning machine. I eat 3 meals & 3 Snacks a day. I eat small and regually. I also aim for 60-80g of Protein. I am really tight but I also try and eat solids when I can. I find Oh Yeah bars go down easy. I also have gone back to pureeing my meats. You want to aim to get 1000-1400 cals. You may also want to try a food diary to track your Protein. Good luck!

Definitely see your doctor for some follow up advice, but I agree with Kiskis, it seems that you may not be getting enough nutrition. It's counterintuitive, but if you get a small unfill to allow you to eat properly, you may find that you start to lose weight.

Good luck.

I think that theres a fine balance between eating enough to feed your body and not enough to lose weight. It does sound like u dont eat enough which must be hard for you if your band is very tight. If you do a lot of exercise on a small amount of food it can actually prevent you losing weight, we all have an optimum amount that we can eat and do our exercise which enables us to lose weight, the trick is to keep going til you know what that magic amount is.

For me protien shakes should be supplements to your food, they shouldnt really replace it. I would definitely speak to your Doc or Nutritionist, some people do feel more restiction of a morning but really you should always be able to drink Water without it having trouble going down.

good luck :)

Do you track your food intake every day? If you're tracking honestly and taking in a "small" amount of calories but the scale isn't budging I would get your thyroid checked.

My doctor told me to lay off of the Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch. They are not filling so I would not feel full and then make bad food choices. Find things that stick with you longer. For breakfast try eggs and turkey sausage. Don't be ashamed. You did something to better yourself how can that be wrong? Try to change the eating habits and make the band work for you. You are not alone. Many of us are fumbling through our first year trying to find out what works. I wish you the best.

I am 2+ years out and went in today for a very small unfill just .2cc and it is like the difference of night and day. If you are too tight go back and see your Dr. Most do not charge for unfills. Best wishes!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
