November 60 Mile Walk Challenge

JaGo~ I'd say go easier than you have been to give your body time to build up and so you don't injure yourself. 3 miles of the walk away the pounds in a day might be too much for you. The 1 mile WATP dvd 2 times a day would probably be gentler on your body than the 2 miles dvd at one time.

Listen to your body.

Joan,

I think you may be right, I will slow it down. Thanks for the advice!! I'll let you know how it goes. I guess I was trying to be an over-achiever...not good! :P

I am able to update my weight ticker but my exercise ticker wil not go to the ticker site when I click on it?

So, I'll just log my miles this way:

25 miles done, 35 miles to go, yikes!

My husband and I went on a hike for our anniversary. (way to go us for finding a non food date) The trail was pretty tough and it took us an hour and a half for 3-4 miles. It was really fun and nice to not be so out of shape that I couldn't do it!

Good morning everybody,

I've slowed my walking pace as to not injure myself and still have the high expectation to reach the finish line by the 30th!! I had been doing 3 brisk miles daily (with Leslie Sansone) and it became a bit much. 2 miles is more manageable and less stress on the body.

Also, today - November 22 - is my 1 year bandiversary!!! Woo-hoo!! I will continue on this journey until I reach my goal of 100lbs lost, So far I've lost 52 lbs. It would have been more but got distracted for a few months. This 60-mile challenge has given me a great boost to trek onward!! Though I've felt a difference already in my waistline, it has not registered on the scale yet. No matter, I am still encouraged and will stay motivated!

Don't give up, k!

Congratulations on one year, JaGo! Today is MY one year anniversary!!! It's been slooooooow going for the past 6 months at least, but I feel like a success story. I am so much more active and fit than I was a year ago!

The fact that I'm going to walk today shows how far I've come.

I had a lovely and blessed Thanksgiving with my siblings and our (very grown) children and my 86 year old mother. I ate what I wanted but in smaller portions - eating a little more than normal. But I'm still weight-loss conscious and walked 3 miles on Thanksgiving, 3 miles the day after and 3 miles this morning!!!

Hey everybody, we're in the home stretch now!!! Even to those who may think they won't finish all 60 miles, you're doing an amazing feat with the miles that you're putting in!! Keep going and don't give up!! thumbs_up.gif

I figure I should jump right in! I'm getting banded this month so I'll have to try to get in some extra miles before the actually surgery! Do you guys count only miles that are specifically "exercise" or do you count the entire day's worth, like from a pedometer?

CassieF,

How are you doing post surgery and how was your surgery experience?

dk4k,

Yes, you ARE a success story - I find that we must encourage OURSELVES to make it. Congrats to you too on your bandiversary!! I too am more active and fit than a year ago!!! We've all come a long way and this November challenge has been "just what the doctor ordered!"

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
