For those of you at goal/ long termers

Recommended Posts

Okay...I was banded july 16, 2010. I have lost 110 lbs and am at my goal weight(amazing to type:). Heres my question..... My band is really tight. As time goes on, do you still get fills? If you dont, how long has it been and how much can you eat? Those of you that have had it for years, how is it going with maintenance? I read so much about the surgery and the getting to goal....I want to know the after:) All replies appreciated and i am so proud of you guys.

I was banded in June, '08. I'm 12 pounds from goal and haven't had a fill since April. I don't anticipate needing one any time in the near future.

Banded december 05. I needed top up fills (tiny) once a year, but i kept a loose band. Had to unfill a year ago forva surgery and have had six fills this year to try to get back to where i was, am now past my previous levl but not in the green zone yet. Fortunately ive managed not to gain.

I a new to maintenance, too. I keep a loose band, and just had an operation because my band had slipped. My surgeon keeps pretty close watch to make sure I don't gain. If I have the tendency to add a few lbs, he gives me a fill. Goodluck and best wishes! Karen

I have had to have a few fills during maintenance but not too often....I had a slipped band repositioned and the position is different from the 1st way and I needed to fine tune the Fluid level. I think it is individual depending on where your green zone is....I assess my status every couple of weeks so I can stay on top of it.....too tight and slider food is inevitable----> wt gain, too loose leads to more food and wt gain. It is a balancing act, for sure.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
