Hello my 2/11 BandFriends

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm back and ready to rock and roll after a few crazy months. It started with a bad tummy virus which made it impossible to keep down any food or even Water. I guess the stomach gets inflamed and what was a nice amt of restriction turned into way tooo much. So they had to remove all the Fluid from the band. I was freefalling baby! Once my tummy was better I went a cruise and really from there the summer was not a great time for me. I ended up gaining about 8lbs back from my loss (boo hiss) but since getting refilled two times I have lost all of that and am now on my way to losing more. I'm a good restriction level which will prevent me from overeating. I'm also making great choices again.

I had some gyn surgery 1.5 wks ago so I haven't been able to exercise yet but I plan on starting up just as soon as possible...maybe tomorrow since I'm feeling half way decent. I was doing so well before the summer...on the treadmill for one hour per day RELIGIOUSLY, doing crunches and I even started some universal arm work. But typical of me, once I fell off the wagon....I FELL OFF! lol

So, how is everyone else doing? I miss hearing about everyone. I promise not to vanish again. I know we can all have a GREAT 1 yr BANDIVERSARY if we stick together.

Hugz to everyone!

JPT

Hi JPT!

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well again! Like you, I have had my ups and downs and I can't seem to get my exercise rhythm back on track -- though I'm starting back up full steam with a boot camp class this week. Lol! Not sure what I'm getting myself into. I am not in the green zone, but my doctor has been really hard to get into for fills and due to a stomach bug, I had to cancel the last appointment (and couldn't get back in until the end of this month...so hopefully that fill will put me closer to the "green zone").

I hope all of our other Feb 2011 bandsters are out there and doing well!

Check in when you can and we can chat! :D

Hello and welcome back. I am still hanging in there but weight is too. Spoke to doctor about it just yesterday and because I am older he said I should expect the weight loss to be about 2-5 pounds a month. I am finally at a stage where I feel restriction with most meals and I am not hungry all the time. I confess that I am probably eating more than I should to facilitate rapid weight loss but I will be happy with an average of a pound a week. Sorry that you had it rough and hope that the recent gyn surgery is not causing you distress. Good luck to us all.

Tom

Well its good to hear y'all are doing pretty good. I have done absolutely terrible. My doctor is very conservative so i haven't had any restrictions, only two fills up until last week and had gained back 8 pounds of the amount i had lost. Went in for another fill last week and FINALLY i think we have got restrictions. It's absolutely amazing how different this feels. this is what i thought it would be like wheni had the surgery and it took 8 months to get me there. Oh well, no sense crying over spilled milk - i think i'm now on track from some decent weight loss. I've started walking again and hopefully the weight will start dropping.

Hi all,

I'm still around... though feeling a bit unmotivated and irritated with myself. I still do not have very much restriction. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...know I'm not always making the best food choices but my gosh I eat so much less than I used to and yet I've been at a stand still for 3 months! I go back to the dr. on Monday (guess no halloween candy for me...that's a good thing!) I have 4.5 cc's in my band and believe my dr. is going down to .25 cc's from now on :( Hopefully I will get there...it's a bit embarassing going in there and being the same! :(

Hope you all are doing well...and better than me! Planning on getting on here a bit more often...for some motivation.

Take Care!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
