Gallbladder removal and lap band at the same time

Recommended Posts

I am having my gallbladder removed at the same time that my lap band is placed I have seen on here that some people had them as separate surgeries and said that the gallbladder removal was more painful than the lap band. Has anyone had their gallbladder taken out at the same time as their lap band surgery? If you did, how was your recovery?

I didnt have them done at the same time, but my gall bladder surgery was a peice of cake compared to the lapband surgery! I think its a wise decision to get it over with at the same time because the pain I endured from the gall bladder was worse then giving birth times 10!!!

I had both procedures done at the same time on 8/19/11 and I can honestly say that it wasn't bad at all, for pain meds after surgery I was only on Tylenol. Just make sure they give you an antibiotic before and after surgery to prevent an infection to the band. (mine was given thought the IV)

I totally think it is better to do it while I am already there and open. My doc is having me take antibiotics before hand to make sure there is less chance of infection since it is a "dirty" surgery compared to the band too. I would rather have a little more pain for a few days than ever have another gallbladder attack!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
