Second day of pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Second Day of pre op diet. Yesterday got somewhat better. Though the Protein Shakes were aweful and I had to go to the restroom afterwards, I can say my hunger was contained way better than I though. I was okay until five or six pm then I was starving! What worked for me was lots of Water and spearmint gum. I've had my Protein Shake this morning and the restroom trip:)but feeling okay so far.

The pre-op diet was tough! I had a lot of sugar free popsicles and Jello along with my Protein shakes. I had a hard time finding a Protein shake I could stand the taste of. I ended up trying some Body Fortress Protein powder from Walmart and it's tolerable. Both the chocolate and the vanilla are ok. Once you're post-op and can be back on full liquids, you can add a tablespoon of sugar free instant pudding mix to a shake for variety. I add banana pudding mix to the vanilla so it makes it a banana protein shake!

Good luck...it's tough but it's worth it. I got a reprieve the last couple of days of my pre-op diet, because I went to see my surgeon 3 days before surgery for the pre-op checkup, and told him how hungry I was and that I was having headaches, and he said I could go ahead and eat! I still did liquids only the day before the surgery but it was nice having that little time in there where I could have regular food again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
