Congratulations on quitting smoking; that is a rough one. If you continue to smoke pot, be sure to tell your doctor as it will affect your anesthesia. I don't know if pot will show up in a nicotine test, but if your doctor didn't want you to smoke legal cigarettes, I cannot imagine he/she would want you to smoke an illegal drug. Maybe you can cut back on the pot. Best of luck with your surgery.

Hon, you need to quit the pot altogether. They could easily pull a drug test on you. It was made very clear to me that if I smoked anything, I would not qualify or be accepted for surgery.

all the best,

Melinda

Remember that marijuana stays in your system up to thirty days. Better make sure you quit in time.

Pot can be detected in your system for 30 days. If you are seriously wanting to get healthy, I suggest that you discontinue all forms of tobacco. It slows the healing process and obviously is not good for you.

Pot is not tobacco, but I agree. It's fun, it's relaxing, it feels wonderful, and there are TONS of web sites and books out there that tell you how healthy it is, how it decreases certain cancer risks, etc, but I don't care what they say...THC may be healthy, but burning something and inhaling the smoke into your lungs is not good for you no matter what kind of smoke it is. If you don't quit, definitely tell your dr or it could be very dangerous for you.

Hate to burst your 30 day bubble all but THC stores in your Fat cells. I wouldn't tell your doc and for the time being it might be wise to forgo it for awhile. Aside from the possibility it might change the course of your scheduled surgery I would imagine it might impede your healing process afterward. Also I would worry about the munchies and having the band... I quit, I am not even approved for the surgery. I am in California where holding a Medical Marijuana license protects me from it being illegal. Its not worth the trouble and the unwanted side effects for be Munchies and being DUMB<- that is what I call it lol. Hope you get the answers you need :)

I just received my pre-admittance papers. If you're having your surgery at a hospital, they ask if you smoke marijuna.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
