Drainage from my Port Incision

Recommended Posts

My biggest incision is where my port is. I have a little spot on the incision that is kind of draining. It is like a brownish blood color. It isn't red at all around the incision or swollen. It is still a little sore, but that seems normal. I have a band aid on it so that it doesn't get on my shirt. There isn't a whole lot coming out, Has anyone else had this problem? I will probably run it by my doctor today, I was just curious if anyone else experienced this.

I had the same problem. Go see your Doctor. I ended up having an infection and had to have my port moved to the other side.

I had some drainage from my port incision. It was kinda yellowish clear. I went to the dr and he said it was a seroma. He put me on keflex since my incision hadn't closed up all the way. He was worried about infection. He also had me put neosporin on it too. Within a week or so, it healed up and the leakage stopped.

It wouldn't hurt to have your doctor look at it. It sounds like a seroma.

Be sure to check with the doc - go in, don't just call. My port location was oozing (clear, not smelly or gross), but I ended up having a staph infection. It really delayed my recovery as I was very tired.

Get this checked ASAP.

I have already had one port revision due to infection, and it appears i have the same thing again. I have tried every antibiotic, and no progress or improvement, so the port has to come out again!

Make sure you get this looked at sooner rather then later!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
