My name is Jennifer and I am 35 with two children. I am brand new to this website- thank you for the group- it was just what I was looking for. My pre-surgery weight was 325, not sure what it is now I don't have a scale that picks up over 300 pounds. :( I was banded 6 days ago, on August 16th. So far, doing ok.

Hey! Im Jamie...

I read your post and wanted to say hello! Dr Bovard did my surgery on August 10th. I am feeling great and my scars look fantastic. I too get sick in recovery... The anistesiologist was fantastic and they also sent me home with a script for Phenergan ... Just ask him for it especially if you can not tolerarte pain meds on an empty stomach ...

Anyway if you have any questions regarding my experience with Dr. Bovard ... send me a message

You are in my thoughts and prayers!!! I will be thinking of you

Warm regards,

Jamie :)

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm 61 years young, a mother of 3, grandmother of 5 perfect grandchildren and I've been married for 41 years. (Probably longer than most of you have been alive out there!) I'm joining here a little early because I am having my surgery Thursday. I've doing 2 weeks pre-op Optifast and have lost 4 lbs in 8 days. No bad, but I had hoped for more. I'm from NC and my grandkids call me GG (georgeous grandmother? or really because our last name starts with a "G").

I have had a weight problem all my life and currently have high blood pressure. When my Dr asked what diets I'd been on I laughed and asked if he had an hour or two! If I don't loose this weight soon I will end up with a lot more co-morbidities like both of my parents. Right now I have pretty bad back, feet and knee problems from arthritis. I had foot and knee surgery last year and lots of my joints are now bone on bone. Not a good thing. I am a breast cancer survivor of 22 years and am very familiar with surgeries, 8 over the last 21 years. I am not really afraid of surgery, just don't like IV's after having had 6 months of chemotherapy. If you are a praying person I'd covet any prayers from you concerning the insertion of the IV on Thursday morning, 7:15 am.. Sometimes they get it the first time, sometime they don't because of my bad veins. I usually get sick in recovery and that's not fun either. My husband and children have always been very supportive and I am a very blessed person, just have this little weight problem. He, of course, is the same size as he was in college and has never been in a hospital except for his tonsils when he was 6. We are OLD!

You younger folks keep up the good work and get that weight off now. It gets harder the older you get. When I had my cancer there was not an internet, just a library and not much there in 1989. It is so neat to have lots of people to share this new venture of mine and I've enjoyed reading and learning on this site for a few weeks. I am looking forward to lots of help for this old grandma!

Hello Taby here! Banded on Aug 17th starting weight was 301lbs surgery day I was at 284 I live in Chicago ,married with 2 children anyone else from Chicago?

Welcome Sandra and Nicole!

I'll update the roster as we get more people! I have a feeling this will be a huge group and i'm excited to go on this journey with everyone!

My name is Missy. I was banded on August 17th. Doing GREAT !!! I went to the State fair 3 days after surgery. Have only taken Aleve for discomfort, not pain. I suggest walking ALOT to relieve co2 gas. I am still on liquid diet and I feel hungry . Only complaint is real soreness where the port was placed. Super excited to be an A11.

Hi - I am checking in after my surgery 8/08. I really had no problems. However, by the last week of the liquid diet I was so over it. I have gotten so I can drink the stuff lumpy. Yeah Yeah Yeah I know. I am down about 12 lbs post surgery. Saw dietician today and on to mushy food. I really am happy with the way my surgeon and insurance carrier prepared me for this surgery. It was not easy. Six months of follow up, all kinds of evaluations....I am doing what they say - to a point. I have my first fill next week. He moved it up because I am doing so well. I Have a definite "enough" feel in my tummy. And like I said, I don't have any fill yet. Feel the best I have in years. Started my journey at 319 and am down 269. Lost a toddler along the way. My husband says the Chinese are happy as they have had a few more CHINS added to their phone book. I have to have my work badge changed as guess what - I have a FACE!!!

Hi,

So good to hear from a fellow patient. Thanks so much for your prayers. I just love Dr B and his staff. Some kooky lady gave him a horrible review so if you get time write one for him. I had my pre op anesthesia appointment today and they said they would give me an anti nausea cocktail Thurs. so that was good. They will also give me Lidocane for the IV so I feel better. Where did he put your port for fills? I didn't ask him that. Are you doing OK?

GG

I'm doing really well! My port is near my belly button. I had surgury on a weds. I live in Winston Salem so I had a long drive home after. That night I walked a bunch. The only "pain" I had was in my left shoulder. I even went to work a half day the Friday right after (2 days post op )and was back to a full schedule the Monday after. I have been walking a bunch this weekend I walked 10 miles on sat. And yesterday I did my first post op spin class. I am conscious of the port especially as the swelling went down but it's just a consciousness not pain. I stll get occasional left shoulder pain even a week and a half later. The heating pad has been my best friend for that. I think I was most surprised at how once the swelling went down I am starvin Marvin I see the dr next week for my first fill. I'm really excited to feel some restriction because right now it's like preop will power. So - so far so good. I read a ton about the whole lap band process which I think is sometimes to my detriment as I tend to be a Internet hypochondriac lol. I also bought the body for life cookbook... The meals look yummy... Word of warning ... Not good to look at when your starving!! I'm excited to start eating normally!

I will be thinking of you Thurs.... It's going to go great!!
