I'm 51 years old and have been overweight most of my life. It really got out of control when I started on insulin for diabetes and arimidex post Brest cancer. Since then I've had had numerous surgeries and injuries. Hoping the lap band will help me jump start my way back to health. Have to admit some of the post surgical comments are scaring me.

What about the post surgical comments are scaring you? Is it the potential for complications? You need to keep in mind that this is a support site so a lot of the posts are from people seeking advice about issues...there are many successful bandsters out here who don't post a lot or are not on the boards anymore because they are out living their life.

My suggestion to you is to do a lot of research (including reading these boards to see the good, the bad and the ugly) and then you can make an informed decision.

Personally, this is the absolute best decision I have ever made for myself and I don't regret it for a second...but I'm one of the lucky ones who haven't had any complications...

I'm doing this for the same reasons you are doing it. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer last August. I finished chemo in Jan. Radiation in April... and I am getting my band next Tuesday. I'm very much looking forward to getting control of my body I know this is my best chance to get healthy and try to prevent recurrence, so I am taking it! I have a teenaged daughter who I would do anything for, including making myself healthy -so that I can be there for all of her milestones.

Do some research and some soul searching ultimately this is a decision only you can make for you.

Vicki - yes the complications scare me. I don't want to be gagging and vomiting. I do that with Byetta. I can't go anywhere once I've taken that.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
