tube came apart from port

Recommended Posts

Oh yes. The band manufacturer says its not their fault I have "defective" band, they are not paying for it :(

That's ridiculous...

What has your Surgeon said about this?

Realize recalled some bands due to an issue with where the tubing attaches. Here is the link.

No bands were to be removed from patients. Just existing iventory replaced.

Thank you for the information. I do have a Realize band and will be seeing the PA the end of this month. I may be seeing a surgeon here in town for a 2nd opinion before that. l had to travel about 100 miles away from where live to get the band because our hospital isn't a center of excellence for the band so I had to go where there was one.

If you are having so much pain, and it is rubbing, and scraping. You should go into a hospital, and let them look at it through Fluoroscope.

If they see it's that bad,,, they might do something for you. Even put it back together with a adhesive that they work with for the Band.

Otherwise I am very sorry to hear that something like this has happened to you.

I wish you the best of luck, and Good Health only, Shirley.

My port did move around alot before my last surgery to fix the tube. He must have seen that it was to, because he moved it and attached it GOOD that time, so good, that I was sore for 6 weeks just at the port site, it was crazy.

We go into this surgery (having the band) knowing the risks, but you dont know about the little things that happen. Thats why this is a good site, so ppl can read our crazy stories, lol.

I go on the 22nd to have my 2nd repair. He will only put in a new band if the tubing is "broke" off. otherwise, hes just going to re-attach the tube to the port again, pushing it in further this time? If it happens again, im taking it out, a person can only handle so much.

Shedding the weight can be so hard, so I dont regret having the band done, I just wish it would stay in place, lol

I was told that a muscle is where they stitch them to also. The CT I had said I have a moderate umbilical hernia which could be causing some problem but my port does move around. Most people that I've known that had umbilical hernias had protruding navels but mine doesn't.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
