Where to start...100kg(220lbs) I was banded in November 1996 in what I thought was a laproscopic operation...only to awake from the op with a lovely zipper scar from my breast bone to my navel... all went ok but the weight loss did not go as planned...I suffered from depression as a result of the unexpected scar that by now had gone keloid...yuck... defeat again whats the point of doing all this yada yada yada... several attempts at introducing Fluid to the band dropped 20kilo (44lbs)... suffered again with SALIVA problems couldnt swallow properly... drink always turned to, too much salvia no one could answer my problem so I had all the Fluid removed in November 2001...

Now I want the fluid put back after gaining 18kg(39lbs) but I am worried about all that salvia... Has anyone got any suggestions at what im doing wrong...

Do you mean you had trouble swallowing your saliva after the fill?

That doesn't sound like you did anything wrong! It sounds like your doctor over-estimated how much Fluid to fill your band with.

From what I've read online, it seems that some people get very restricted with small fills.

I think it would be good to ask your doctor to give you a smaller fill than normal to start off with. Then you can creep up slowly to higher levels of restriction until you reach the point that is comfortable to you.

In the past couple of years the band has become more popular and more has been learned about how to use it properly, so I bet that your doctor will be able to handle it better now than in the past.

I am glad that you've joined us here. It is very educational to hear about the experiences of long-term post-ops. I'm sorry that you have experienced so much trouble, but hope things get easier for you now.

Maybe you can try using a different fill doctor and explain that you have problem swallowing after being filled by the previous doctor??

Andie I can't help you but I just wanted to wish you all the very best of luck with it. And I hope they are able to work out what is going wrong.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
