Just starting my journey

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone my name is Christine Black and I live in Illinois. I am a little farther then some of you are. I am finishing up my 3 month diet exercise program with my Dr. Tommorrow I have my second and hopefully last appointment with the phycologist. I also have my last appt pre-surgery with my nutritionist on Tues. So hopefully my file will be submitted to my insurance the first week in June... Anyway I am so ready for this journey. My husband and I have been talking about this for about a year. I have a wonderful family and my husband loves me just the way I am. The problem is I don't like me so much and I have 2 boys to take care of.. My oldest son is severely disabled and needs constant care. So I need to get healthy for so many reasons.. I have been trying to wrap my mind around this journey and how it is going to change my day to day living... I have already started trying to cut things out.. Diet coke has been a huge part of my life for years... I have been 7 days today without a diet coke... Just drinking Water and tang. Also occasionally a tea. Anyway I am rambling.. I am just happy to find this page and will be a constant stalker on here..lol I won't post much but, I will read hours... Good luck to all of you newbies like me...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
