Timing?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious - for those of you that had the 90 day waiting period before surgery, what was the timing of your appts? I thought that the 90 days started when I had my first consult with the physician, but when I saw the nurtitionist, she said that my insurance required a physician supervised diet which allowed for me to see the nutritionist three times - and since this was my first meeting with her, it was considered Day 1. She also said that they had to submit 90 full days of a food diary to the insurance. Seems crazy!!

So here's what my schedule has been so far:

4/6/11 - Seminar

4/29/11 - Meeting with Coordinator and Surgeon

5/3/11 - Upper GI

5/4/11 - Meeting with sleep doctor

5/8/11 - sleep Study

5/9/11 - Meeting with Nutritionist and Meeting with Psych (I passed)

Found out I have Apnea, so I have to have a 2nd Sleep Study on 5/13/11

90 days would be surgery around Aug 3rd.

Can they not submit anything until the 90 days has passed, or do they submit it in advance, knowing that 90 days will be completed on a certain date? Other than the 90 days of food documentation, I will have completed everything and will just be sitting around waiting. Is that normal?

Well I have Kaiser and they required me to take a 12 week class and in that class we had to complete a daily food journal until the end of the class. I completed all of the testing and appoinments while still attending the class. When I completed the class they submitted it to the insurance. However I didn't get my surgery until a month and half after the class was completed.I was a little disappointed but eventually it all worked out. Wishing you the best! :D

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
