New in Houston...looking for doctor

Recommended Posts

Hi Ya'll B)

I've done all the research, had my family help me do the research, and am totally ready to have the surgery. Now I just need to figure out who to get to do it! I attended a seminar in The Woodlands (where I live) held by a couple of Conroe doctors, but they hadn't actually done any lapbands so I quickly crossed them off my list.

I plan to call Dr. Spivak's office to schedule a seminar with him. Dr. Wilson's office also. Can anyone suggest questions that I might ask when attending the seminars?

By the way, I'm going to be a self pay patient. My insurance has already told me they won't cover the procedure.

Thanks for any advice ya'll can offer.

If you want personal care, do not use Felix Spiegel MD. I am sure he is a great surgeon, but his office staff is incompetent. I went to him, and before I got the surgery, I asked for my money back. He advertises all over the place and has so many patients going through his office you are treated like cattle. Also, his office staff doesn’t care if you are happy or not.

I was banded on January 6th by Matthew J. St. Laurent, MD, FACS. He is a Texan who went to A & M and Texas. He is a personal doctor and took time to explain things to me at the first visit. I had no complications and am feeling very good.

Dr. Spivak is an awesome doctor and I highly recommend him. I have not heard anything negative about him or his staff. You can ask anybody on this message board about him. He is wonderful! :hail:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
