Productive Burps (PBs) and Not Keeping Anything Down

Recommended Posts

I am trying to eat very small bites and chew thoroughly, but I'm having problems with PBs with EVERYTHING except grits, oatmeal, yogurt, and Soup.

Anyone else?

I am really, really frustrated. Especially because I am up 4 lbs. WTH??!

Are you having heartburn or reflux? When was your last fill? When I saw my doc last week, he said to keep a watchful eye for being overly restricted. Have you called your doctor? Sorry...wish I knew more. I have PB'd twice and hated it...terrible feeling. ((hugs)) Hope you feel better soon -- I'd give your clinic a call.

No hearburn, thank goodness. In fact, I haven't had heartburn since before my surgery! They repaired my hernia and I never had to pop a pepcid again.

I think it's a matter of me really learning how to cut my food even tinier than I have been doing, taking a bite at a time, and eating slowly. I thought I was doing that, but maybe I was wrong. Last night I made a lovely pork tenderloin with roasted brussel sprouts and baked potatoes, and I managed to eat (and keep down) two slices of pork, almost the entire baked potato, and two small brussel sprouts. I cut them sooooo small and ate them a piece at a time. I felt pretty awesome! So that was a good thing.

I also found out why I am up 5 (as of this morning) pounds: I have a personal trainer and he really killed me on Friday. Someone on a workout forum suggested my body is holding on to fluids right now because it is simply not used to this (and probably thinks it is a big joke, LOL). I was pretty well incapacitated this weekend...could hardly walk I was in so much pain from doing squats. So hopefully, I will lose all that Water eventually.

Hi Polly,

I'm glad you were able to keep down your dinner (totally yummy sounding by the way!). Since being banded, I'm taking smaller bites, but what has gotten me in a couple of minor jams is (1) Eating too quickly and (2) Not chewing quite enough. The main thing I've noticed since my first fill is that stuff will sit a little longer in my chest if I eat too quickly and/or don't chew enough. It's just so darn hard to eat slowly and chew enough while I'm wrangling kids at Breakfast or dinner (lunch is my best meal because I'm at work, and for Breakfast I usually just have a Click Protein shake these days).

I think your Water retention theory is definitely right on the money -- our bodies aren't used to sweating it out for workouts (I'm with you...my body is all sorts of LoL about this transition back to a healthier self). I've also been taking in a lot more fluids than I did before, so my scale weight in the a.m. is always much better than the p.m. ;) Your workouts sound awesome! I would love to havea PT, but am settling for Zumba classes and the treadmill for now. I need to start doing weight training ot stave off some of the flab if I can.

Btw, I love your blog and cooking photos! Yummy omlet idea -- I may have to try that out on a weekend. I always get intimidated when I have to flip the filled omlet...and that's where it all goes wrong. I love to cook too, and am always in search of great lower carb/healthy recipes (DH, the kids, and I are all eating better...and I really owe it to the band...although I still make Cookies for my preschooler here and there).

Have a great day and chat with you later!

Well, I'm glad to read that you are doing better.

Someone posted that they feel more restricted at different times of the day. ITA with that. I have noticed that things that have gotten stuck have been okay at other times. Also, it depends on how juicy things are. Meaning...protein by iteself like chicken is hard for me but if it has some sort of sauce with it or eaten with salad, then I'm okay.

I'm jealous of your baked potato and brussel sprouts. Im a big fan of both but I've pretty much eliminated potatoes at this point since they are my trigger food. Carbs in general are crazy for me and can start a major binge like a druggie. I kid you not!

:-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
