Feeling sick

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning with a gas feeling in my chest and left shoulder and burping. My major concern is getting down the fluids without feeling like I have chest pains and have a "stuck" feeling in my chest. Should that be happening??? I don't want to take in fluids because of this and not to mention I haven't had a BM since my surgery 2 days ago.

I had my surgery on 3/29. I also had the gas really badly directly following surgery and up until yesterday. I have been using the gas x strips. Definitely try those. Also use an over the counter medication like Tagament or something similar for that stuck feeling. It really helps to break up the gas. You really also need to be sipping Water, doing Protein drinks and the sugar free popsicles have been a godsend.

Good luck!

I know what you mean, I just had surgery on March 28th and it was day 3 before I had a BM and 2 days before I released a small amount of gas, but now its day 6 and its a coming lol, the gas pain will get better but I felt horrible for the first 2 days and it mostly was due to the gas pain. But they are right, you need to drink Water and Protein shakes in order to try and feel better and try to walk when your up to it, this too will release the gas pressure. I used gas x as well but now I hear beano works alot better.

I was banded last year in april and suffered excruciating gas pain for about a week or so following surgery. I fould that liquid maalox worked the best for me and was easy to swallow. hang in there it does get better soon.:(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
