Need a Buddy/Mentor

Hello All,

I am new to this forum. I actually just signed up. However, I am not new to the lapband. I was banded in April 2009. Prior to being banded I weight 335lbs. Before my banded I lost down to 318 on my own, I continued to lose weight down to 287 lbs. However, in July of 2009 I lost my job and insurance. This all devastated me and I fell off my square and by the time I went back to the doctor this year for my first fill since 2009 I had gone back up to 307 lbs. I was not happy about that but I have been working at try to shift myself back.

Since January and my first fill, I have lost 10 lbs so I am down to 297 lbs. I am challenged to get in the gym and for some reason I am very challenged to drink more than 4 glasses of Water per day. I have been using the Sparkpeople.com website to help me with managing my food intake, but when the weekends come all bets are off. I tend to be a very social person so I always have some type of invitation to go out and have lunch or dinner. So when the weekend comes I kind of lose it, I believe it is because my days are less structured than when I am at work. I am usually building brick with no straw laugh.gif so I don't have as much time to stray. I also find it challenging when fixing my plate to put a small amount of food. Although I know I cant eat as much as I used to my mind says thats not enough food when I look at the portions. I am still very hopeful about losing the weight, but not as far along as I would like to be. I could certainly use some help in the accountability department. I just turned 40 this year, I am single with no children, so I don't have any real major distractions. I would really appreciate anyone who could help.

Thank you in advance.

I struggle with the same thing on the weekends! I feel like I am super woman during the week and do GREAT but as soon as the weekend comes... well... it's not so good. I have not had surgery yet but *fingers crossed* that I will soon. In order to break some bad habits before surgery I did a self imposed liquid diet starting Friday morning and lasting until Monday morning. I hope this might break my bad weekend habits!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
