Lap Band or Realize Band Here's the difference.

Recommended Posts

Interesting info but there's no source citation. Who is the writer? Where does their information come from? And most surprisingly, why is Laura Bush at the top of the page saying she got Lap Band surgery?!blink.gif

Lap-Band® Surgery - Best Way to Loose Weight

I love that line the best! I have a hard time taking something serious when the grammar is so horrific that it is nearly incomprehensible. Perhaps the site is written for another country and translated into English?

I wouldn't want a "Loose" band either.

Too funny!

I have the realize band. My doctor showed me both and let me decide. Seriously what qualifies me to decide? LOL

I picked the one with the smaller port. I did notice that the realize band was smooth where the lap band seemed to have separate adjoining pockets or ridged or something like that. Not sure if that would make a difference in any way.

Mattie, perhaps your surgeon has found there is really not much of a difference in reality, but that many patients want one or the other for some reason. Thus he lets the patients decide. Sort of like the bank saying we will finance you for a Honda or a Toyota, both are good cars of about equal value, you choose which you want.

Also in today's medical world (at least in the States) patients are expected to choose their own treatments. Doctors put their recommended treatments and all options out there, and leave the final decision up to the patient. We've been through a lot of this recently with my MIL. Her health is failing. The doctor has stated what he thinks is the best course of action, then offered other alternatives.

Unless a treatment is wrong, such as taking out your appendix to treat a broken leg, doctors should listen to what we want. At the same time, we should listen to what they are recommending. That is one of the best ways we can make an informed decision.

Actually he did prefer the Realize band but lets the patient decide. I was thinking "okay, whatever, that Realize band looks nicer and the port is smaller so......." LOL, hence a decision was made!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
