TexasMama ~ I'm doing really well -- thanks for checking on me. :) I definitely have that "heavyweight boxer used my abdomen for a punching bag" feeling, but as long as I take my Lortab every 4-6 hours, I'm good (it tastes digusting, but it really does take the edge off of the pain). Today, I've been drinking Protein shakes, Water, and hot Decaf tea. So far, so good -- although it's a weird feeling when you drink because you can kind of feel the funnel system in your tummy. The toughest for me so far is keeping my kiddos from hugging and jumping on me -- my oldest understands, but my lttle ones are only 18 months.

How are you feeling? Like you, I also had my hiatal hernia repaired, and aside from a little incision pain, I think it has bothered me the most with shoulder pain. Are you on Phase II liquids now? I can't wait for us to look back a year from now and see how well we've done. (((HUGS))) :)

Sorry to be so rambling...I blame it on Lortab. LoL.

What is lortab? I had morpheine overnight in the hospital and then was sent home with Tylenol/Codeine. I didn't use the Ty/Co because I knew that I would feel better if I got off the drugs.

I'm so glad to hear your surgery was a success!! You know, I really didn't have a lot of gas pain. I found out about a week before my surgery that my dr is kind of famous for trying to get the excess CO2 out before closing up patients. I had just a bit of soreness in my upper shoulders. My really sore spot was the hernia repair. Fortunately that is going away and now that I am no longer on the Lortab, I can tell my port incision is a little tender.

I know what you mean about your little ones. My youngest is just at the tail end of 2 (her 3rd bday is next week) and she's been "Up! Up! Up!" wanting hugs and jumps and I hate to have to tell her no. Makes me sad. I try to make it up by getting down and hugging her anyway, but I don't know if her little princess self is 100% satisfied with that. ROFL.

I am eating mostly liquids, but I was allowed to have something--eggs-- after I called his office yesterday flipping out. I had a scrambled egg last night, and today I ate the pulp of a pickle (LOL, my biggest craving--a big, fat, Claussen pickle!! Go figure) and a piece of string cheese. He expects to give me full clearance for cream Soups, yogurt, and cottage cheese for the next week. I really do not know how I am going to go another week without eating some kind of meat! It's going to make me crazy.

justplaintired, Lortab is a mix of hydrocodone (Vicodin) and Tylenol. It is an opiate like Codeine but some claim it works more effectively. I don't really like being "loopy" myself, but I felt like Tylenol alone would not cut it! You are brave!! :)

Glad to hear you are doing well, Elle!! I am doing pretty good too. Today is the first day that I actually feel like I am starving. I have not cheated but I sure would give anything to have some mashed potatoes!!

TexasMama ~ How are you? I'm feeling much better, although still having some shoulder pain (probably more from the hernia repair than anything else). My little ones are still having a hard time not being picked up by mommy (we've each shed some tears) -- it's cute, my 4 year old has been trying to explain that mommy has "owies" to them. :) Are you on mushies now? You are doing awesome! I'm still not having much of an appetite -- and every once in awhile I have a hiccup-like spasm of my diaphram, which is a ltitle disconcerting. I do miss chewing...but I'm on to thicker liquids in another day, so that should be much better. I see my doctor for a post-op check up on Thursday. I'm so glad that we are on our banded journey! I really can't believe I've already got this gadget in my belly. LoL. Crazy, huh?

Justplaintired ~ How are you doing? Are your leg pains gone? I hope you are feeling back to normal! How's banded life?

Ck1redhead ~ I'm so glad you are doing well! :D No cheating here either, but definitely looking forward to getting past the all drinking phase. Are you on thicker liquids next week or on to mushies? I'm on thicker liquids (thinned out Soups, watery oatmeal-type cereals, skim milk instead of Water with my Protein shakes, etc.).

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
