Just had surgery and starting to regret already

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Thursday Jan 13 and that night I was in severe pain in my chest and starting out spitting up a foamy substance and then when given my liquid medication the last time I threw up alot of foam and then threw up the medicine. The surgeon first said might thought band may be too tight and may have to go back in and replace with a larger one. He was able to pull 2 ccs of Fluid out of it and thought that would fix the problem and it seemed to tempoararily. I was able to drink with no pain or spitting up. Now it is 12 hours later and I am home and I tried to eat Jello and it is doing the same thing again. Is this normal and if so what is causing it and when will it go away ?

I'm three months post op and I still can't tolerate cold things very well. I have pain when I drink cold Water. I just don't do it. I did have to take my pain meds for a week after surgery (longer than I expected; I was off meds 3 days after my c-section). Try warm liquids like broth and see how that goes. It's all I did for a week and it worked for me.

after surgery i was only aloud to do liquids so maybe that Jello was a bit much. Ive never had anything like what your going threw but you might want to contract your doctor.

I am really shocked that your doctor did'nt have you on liquids considering your previous problems. I would try broth which helps losen the band, and later try a Protein shake if you are aloud them.

Every time I read that someone had saline added at surgery they end up having trouble! I know it's difficult but I would not blame the band yet. Stay on liquids so the swelling can go down.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
