Hi!

I am new to this board and about to have lap band surgery. Can anyone tell me how common it is to have vomiting post-op? I keep reading about it and wondered if it is normal or not. Thanks.

most people having bariatric surgeries will experience nausea after surgery it is quite common. You may or may not. But they will give you something for it if it occurs.

every surgery I have ever had (2 cesarean sections, 1 ovary removal) - I have thrown up and was also nervous about nausea. Surprisingly with the lap band, gall bladder removal, hiatal hernia repair I had this week - not even a little bit of it!!!

I had absolutely no nausea post op. They did put a scopolamine patch on me prior to surgery which may have helpped and I took it off 3 days post op. Though it did mess with my vision

Upchucking with a band is much less traumatic and post-op, you're stomach will be empty or possibly have a little fluid. If there was a "best" time to do it, that's it! Ask your doc and he will likely prescribe something for you, either pre or post-op.
