after surgery

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much, just trying to think happy thoughts and hope and pray that a snow storm doesn't post pone my surgery one more week :(

Lorilovesflowers - I was also so worried about a snow storm. I had the added worry of having my surgery depend on a proctor (another experienced dr. watching my surgeon's first and second surgery. The proctor was flying in the day before from his Christmas ski vacation in Colorado. I live in a rural area and if he couldn't come in, my surgery was off. I also had a bad cold they were watching for pneumonia.

But everything was blue sky and decent temperatures, and I passed my morning pre-op. I had an almost perfect surery - no pain, no complications, great dr, great nursing staff. I will hope you have the same! Good luck

Oh, my gosh you really had some really serious issues, so very "Happy" that everything went well for you.. You must have been on pins and needles with all the variables especially the Proctor coming in for a vacation. Trying to be positive either way, thanks so much for the good wishes. Same to you!

Oh man Lori I hope the storm don't effect your surgery. I know what you mean as far as feeling sick. I have my good days and bad. I do know at times I feel a little weak. I have had more back pain then anything. My legs do hurt after being on them all day, but no serious cramping. Hopefully you wont have this problem long... Keep us updated and hope everything goes well!!

Reading your post just made me realize that the importance of the pre/post diets and the reason behind them. I am having surgery this Friday and feeling so sick of the diet and worried I might have to be on the Pre-diet one more week, due to a snow storm. But I realized after reading your post gave me the courage......... that its just one more week and that I am so very blessed to be able to change my life this way................after 15 yrs of obesity! Has anyone out there had problem with serious cramping in there legs? My surgeon told me to eat banana's and Tums. Thanks Lori :)

Just banded Monday. Had 2 weeks liquid diet which was pureed Soups, crystal light , Protein Shakes, sugar free pudding and Jello, also sugar free popsicles.. One day before surgery Clear Liquids broth, crystal light, popsicles. Clear liquids while in the hosp. then back to the liquid diet for another 2 weeks till I see the surgeon. He said I won't have a fill till at least 4 weeks and maybe not even then if I'm doing ok quantity and hunger wise. After the 2 week liquid and my appt. with him it'll be the mushy stage :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
