Rate of Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

Morning Folks!!! Happy Sunday!

I've got a quick question regarding rate of weight loss. Being a guy, it's my understanding that our weight loss tends to be greater than our female counterparts, but how much is too much to lose in a week?

I'm down exactly 43 pounds since the beginning of this journey 5 Weeks ago. 29 Pre Op and 14 Lbs since surgery on Nov 23rd.

Is that about right? Any words of Wisdom would be appreciated. My first fill is scheduled for Dec 28th. Portion sizes have been good, just start Soft Foods on Friday. I have been walking about 3 miles a day since receiving clearance from my Surgeon.

Am I just concerned about nothing?

Thanks guys!

Kevin

how tall are you and what weight did u start at?

I am 11 weeks post op and including a 1 week pre op I am down about 50 lbs, I am eating about 1000 cals a down, most of my weight was lost in first 6 weeks, now I am losing about 3lbs a week and you have just got to get used to it. I have had two fills but only occasionally feel much restriction, I think everyones journey is different as everybody is different, all you need to do is keep your mind in the right place. I am 5-7 and started my journey at 267lbs

It depends on how much you need to lose. I am 6 months out and I think I am doing great for a female. I have lost 86 of my 93 pounds already and have had 6 fills. I don't think you need to worry, you are doing great.

Thanks for the responses yall!! I appreciate it. I figured the weight loss is more rapid in the beginning but just wanted to double check!

Thanks a million!

I lost 95 pounds in the 5 months leading up to surgery and my weight slowed drastically following surgery.

If you are averaging more than 3 pounds a week, you are doing way better than average!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
