I just had my surgery on Wednesday and the gas (belching) is so bad. The pressure is there and it helps so much when you can finally get it out. I had a hiatal hernia repair as well and am having more pain than others that I have talked to that had it done. I keep feeling like I'm having spasms in the center of my chest and it takes my breath away. I called my doctors office and the girl that answered the phone said that it is probably my stitches pulling or the hernia repair.

All I know is that this is so much harder than I thought it was going to be and I feel like I'm starving to the point that the huger pains over taking over and making miserable. I can only have Clear Liquids, broth or juices that are diluted and only 2 oz at a time. I don't see the doctor until next week so this is going to be a really long week.

Hope that you are feeling better and it really does help to take the gas relief chewable pills or the liquid. It also helps to have someone rub your back.

Yeah, my husband went and got me some gas relief meds. Hopefully it will get better. Did you know you had the hernia before surgery? I didnt , it was a shock to wake up and be told that they had repaired it. I think thats alot of the pressure we are feeling. the nurse said it was swollen from the repair, and it would get better. lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
