How long til you were feeling normal? a little depressed I think

Recommended Posts

Banded 10/21. Just wondering how long it was before everyone was sitting without discomfort, not so tired, bending over to pick things up, playing with kids.

I know it has not been long since my surgery & I am also not sleeping well (even w/meds).

I am feeling pretty depressed at times. I miss playing with my daughter. I am very hands on with her usually and just cant do it now as I am too uncomfortable.

Feeling sad and would love to hear I ill snap out of this soon.

It took me about two weeks. At first I couldnt sleep very well and the gas pain for me was HORRIBLE!!! The first day I had real food I truly felt like everything was going to be alright. That was the best mash potatoes I ever had LOL! Your body is just adjusting and will get there. I took small strolls in my backyard to feel better. I don't have any children but I do have fur babies and they would run circles around me in the backyard and they would look at me and wondered why I wasn't playing back. But now everything is good  I tell ya the first week or so I was in here crying about the pain and asking myself what did I do. All the nice people here cheered me on and said hang in there and they were right

Hi bandbuddy,

I just started to feel a bit depressed too. I think we are too hard on ourselves. We want to be up and running now. Remember we just had major surgery 1 week ago .

I was just banded on Monday and am feeling the same way. I feel so guilty that I can't play with my baby. He just cries and looks up not understanding and it breaks my heart. Most of the gas pain is gone today, but now I'm not feeling so great. I knew this was going to be rough, but I guess I hadn't really put my head around it. Good luck on this journey.

I felt the same way for about 2 weeks, maybe a little over but i went back to work after 10 days. Once the pain meds were out of my system the tiredness started to wear off. I was totally recovered by about 4 - 6 weeks!

Hang in there!

By day 6, all my gas pain was gone and I was feeling good. By day 8 and 9, I was back to almost normal. By day 12 and 13, I could start to bend over without wincing, and now at day 16, it's like I never had surgery.

Day 2-5 were hell on earth for me!

I had really bad gas pains in my shoulders and neck for the first week. I was a peppermint tea drinking fool(tea helps gas) and walked a lot!!!! Then week 2 my port was feeling kinda funky for a few days but towards the end of week 2 I started to feel pretty good. (although I didnt let the fam know because they were doing the house work while I wasnt feeling well)

You'll be past this before you know it!!! Just keep thinkin of replacing all the Black Knit you've got going on in your closet with cute little clothes. That works for me. I have a similar wardrobe

Come on jigglebutt.... you will feel better soon!!!!

It's normal to feel depressed. Whether we realise it or not, we often medicate ourselves with food. I was cleared by a psychoanalyst as someone who doesn't do that, but after I got the band I was depressed for about 3 weeks because I couldn't just go and eat a croissant, or a pack of chips or a kebab. Good thing is though, your body adjusts to it eventually. You just have to stick with it and after 6 weeks or so you'll be feeling FANTASTIC.

It takes about 2 weeks for your body to heel, but your brain takes a little longer - time flies if you focus on something else and it is well worth the wait.

Thanks for all the kind words! I really knew being sad was a possibility but it's funny how you are not really ready.

No no - 6 weeks to feel fantasticcc!! This is when you start to notice you have more energy. On average anyways.

Everyone's different. Just keep your chin up and you'll feel right as rain soon enough :-)

I know it might be difficult, but stay positive, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. In the end the main thing with this surgery is to lose weight and become healthy - so keep your eye on the prize.

and if you ever need someone to chat to, send me a message! I went through the same thing :sneaky:

Feel better soon :w00t:

Hello, I was banded on 10/18/2010 and I will admit I had a 10 minute period where I was like "holy moly what did I do to myself?" This was after the gas pain was gone and when I was just feeling yucky. Then I woke up on day 8 and was like "I am back!!!". By day 10 I was cleared and ready to go back to the gym. I think everyone is different but I do think that one day when you wake up, you will feel like your old self and be excited again to live your life with the band. I am on day 11 and I am in love with my band and am having an interesting time learning my new digestion and life as it changes day to day.

Nichole

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
