8 days post op and pain when standing.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

Im new to this forum and newly banded on 14 Oct 2010. My recovery was going pretty well, this wonderful forum has helped so much THANK YOU.

Until....

Last night.

When im sitting or laying down all is ok. But when I stand up it feels like my port area is "Hanging" and sooooo sore. Its hard to describe but if i put a pillow over the site and kind of hold it, it gives some relief. Its like I cant stand up straight, like it wants to rip.

My port is located to the left, near my hip... I have a large swollen tummy too so this doesn't help either i guess.

Please - Anyone - If you can offer any advice or just make me feel better by telling me its normal :w00t: Id feel much better.

Rest for a few days. If the port has detatched itself from the abdominal wall the only way of getting it to re-heal is to stop moving the muscles in that area...Everytime you do, as I'm sure you know, the muscles or tissues essentially tear themselves and heal. If you stay positioned it will give the tissues a chance to heal.

If the problem persists see your surgeon...The last thing you'll want is a flipped port.

I was about 10 days post op when I had a minor family emergency. I essentially OVER DID IT and my port site was actually more painful than it was immediately post op. I rested and used cold packs on the area. Note I said "cold packs" such as rice bag that has been in the freezer. Ice bags are great, but if you use Ice don't put it right next to the skin or leave on too long...my opinion

cold packs such as rice bags, cherry pit bags etc. are cold enough to give relief without being too cold and uncomfortable or messy.

HOPE you feel better SOON!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
