Hi - I am just wanting to hear from people who have developed an ulcer AFTER being banded. I have been put on dexilant by my PCP and he is sending me to a Gastro but he suspects it is an ulcer. I DID go to my surgeon's BEFORE my PCP, twice, they told me to take pepcid and come back in a month if it is still bothersome. Well, I could not take it, as the pepcid did nothing to ease the burning. It was bad enough that I considered going to the ER and probably would have if I had someone to come and sit with the kiddo's.

So - would anyone care to share your ulcer experience. Symptoms, Discovery, Treatment, how well treatment worked, ect?

Thanks.

I found out I have 3 ulcers after being banded for 13 months. I have not been as successful with my weight loss as I would like to be. This journey has been a roller coaster ride from hell. Did very well the first 3 - 4 months after surgery. Then started having lots of stomach pain, gas and major bloating... given an unfill. Started all over again with fills never felt real restriction. Had a fill in July under flouro - up to 10.5 ccs in a 14 cc band. Dropped 10 pounds right away. Started Pb'ing and vomiting often. Went to Dr. in Aug. was told to watch eating habits if continues come back in. Couldn't take it in Sept. (1 year out) started with stomach pain, gas and bloating again with reflux. Went in for unfill. Follow up in Oct. did scope found 3 ulcers and irritation above the band. Went to dr. yesterday told to stay on meds come back in December. I wonder if I should have it taken out. Seems like I have had nothing but problems. Any suggestions?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
