Calcium Citrate question -

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My surgeon wants me to take Calcium citrate daily, but the two brands I've bought so far are large pills. Evening breaking them in half is very difficult to go down.

Would anyone mind sharing the brand you are using that is working for you?

Thanks so much!

Citracel + Vitamin D petites. They still aren't tiny, but much smaller than my regular Calcium supplement. I cut them in half.

Buy chewable ones, ask at the pharmacy.

You can get the Cal cit in a powder that you can mix with Crystal light and you cannot taste it at all. I got mine from the Vitamin Shoppe.< /p>

I take Caltrate Calcium & Vitamin D 600 + D Plus Minerals. They are chewable and flavored cherry, grape, and orange. Not bad! I get them at Walmart.< /p>

I tried all kinds of non-chewable Cal. Citrate.. even cutting them in 1/4's and putting in applesauce or yogurt, they still hurt going down. I went to Bariatric Advantage chewable Calcium. Hooray! No pain!

For the amount of calcium they want me on daily, it was the most cost effective.

Caltrate isn't calcium citrate.. it's calcium carbonate. My doctor wants me on the calcium citrate. He says it's better absorbed.

the liquid is pretty expensive. I know you can order chewable cal cit online, I found a chewable citrate/carbonate combo at GNC... it's the closest I've found without having to buy online

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
