Any regrets?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm writing an article about teens who got the Lap-Band and have mixed feelings or regrets about it, or people who are thinking about it but aren't sure. I'm trying to find as many stories as possible so other people might read them and feel better about themselves. I'm not actually interested in the band myself but a close friend of mine had it with really bad results. If you want to talk please email or call.

Thanks!

Hi, I absolutely love my lap band! I was banded June 14th and 4 monthes later I have lost about 50 lbs which puts me at 175 lbs.. I honestly can't see the change in my weight but I fit into clothes that I havent been able to wear since freshman year. I have been getting comments on my weight loss which is a real self esteem booster. The only thing I wish was different is being able to tell people, I am worried about what people will say because I come from a small town where rumors fly around quickly and no one is slow to judge, that I am really uncomfortable talking about my weight and always have been, so the only person that knows is my mom who got the surgery the same day as me. But other than that I absolutely love it and I keep telling myself I don't need their approval and why am I keeping this from my friends but then I remember it is none of their business I did this for myself not anyone else

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
